SM2000 Dry Ice Blasting Machine FAQs

Practical answers about compressor compatibility, dry ice requirements, included equipment, applications, safety, shipping, warranty and support.

What do I need to operate the SM2000?

The SM2000 requires a suitable external air compressor, pre-sized dry ice pellets no larger than 3 mm (1/8 inch), and a 120V AC/60Hz electrical supply. The air compressor and dry ice are not included with the machine.

The compressor must deliver sufficient continuous airflow at the pressure you intend to use. Compressor tank size alone does not determine compatibility; the rated CFM at PSI is the more important measurement.

Before ordering, email your compressor model or its rated CFM at PSI to support@sanitmax.com. Our team can help confirm compatibility.
What type of air compressor should I use?

The SM2000 requires a compressed-air input pressure of 87–116 PSI (0.6–0.8 MPa) and an adjustable airflow supply of 35–145 CFM (1–4 m³/min). Maintain the supplied air pressure above 45 PSI (0.3 MPa) for continuous operation.

Required airflow varies with the selected nozzle, blast pressure and dry ice feed rate. Choose the compressor by its continuous rated CFM at the intended PSI—not only by horsepower or tank capacity. Clean, dry compressed air is recommended.

Before ordering, send your compressor model or its rated CFM at PSI to support@sanitmax.com for a compatibility check.

What type of dry ice does the SM2000 use?

Use fresh, pre-sized dry ice pellets measuring 3 mm (1/8 inch) or smaller. The SM2000 does not manufacture or crush dry ice, so correctly sized pellets must be obtained separately from a local dry ice supplier.

Keep the pellets insulated and use them as soon as practical. Dry ice naturally sublimates into carbon dioxide gas during storage.

What is included with the SM2000?

    The SM2000 package includes:

    • SM2000 dry ice blasting machine with 44 lb hopper
    • Hand-controlled spray gun
    • 13 ft low-temperature dry ice blasting hose
    • 16 ft intake-air hose
    • Interchangeable nozzle kit for focused, angled and wider cleaning
    • Hand-control wire and anti-static grounding wire
    • Dry ice scoop
    • Protective goggles, hearing protection and anti-static gloves

An air compressor and dry ice pellets are required but are not included. Product configuration can change, so review the current packing list or contact SANITMAX if a particular nozzle or fitting is essential to your application.

What are the main SM2000 specifications?
    • Electrical supply: 120V AC / 60Hz (±10%)
    • Dry ice output: 0–1.32 lb/min
    • Blast pressure: 40–120 PSI, adjustable
    • Compressed-air input pressure: 87–116 PSI (0.6–0.8 MPa)
    • Compressed-air input flow: 35–145 CFM (1–4 m³/min)
    • Accepted dry ice pellet size: 3 mm (1/8 inch) or smaller
    • Machine dimensions: 25 × 27 × 35 inches
    • Machine weight: 133 lb
    • Packaged weight: 203 lb

Actual air consumption depends on the nozzle, pressure and dry ice feed-rate settings used for the application.

What can the SM2000 dry ice blasting machine clean?

The SM2000 can be used to remove compatible grease, oil, adhesives, process residue, soot, dirt and other buildup from machinery, molds, automotive components and restoration surfaces.

Results depend on the bond between the contaminant and substrate. Mineral deposits such as calcium or lime scale, deeply bonded corrosion and some coatings may require a different cleaning method.

Will dry ice blasting damage paint, plastic or electrical components?

Dry ice blasting can be less abrasive than conventional blasting, but no surface should be assumed damage-proof. Results depend on pressure, nozzle type, working distance, exposure time, surface temperature and material condition.

Begin with a conservative setting and test an inconspicuous area first. Disconnect and protect sensitive electrical equipment according to the equipment manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning.

Can the SM2000 be used in food-processing facilities?

The SM2000 may be used to remove compatible dry or process residue from suitable production equipment. However, dry ice blasting is a cleaning method and should not automatically be treated as a complete sanitizing procedure.

Follow your facility’s validated food-safety, allergen-control and sanitation procedures before returning equipment to service. Removed contaminants may still need to be collected and disposed of properly.

Does dry ice blasting leave secondary waste?

The dry ice pellets sublimate into carbon dioxide gas after impact, so they do not leave spent blasting media behind. This can reduce cleanup compared with sand, water or other blasting media.

The material removed from the surface—such as grease, paint, soot or production residue—does not disappear and may still require containment, collection and disposal.

    What safety precautions are required?

Operate the SM2000 only in a well-ventilated work area. Dry ice is approximately −109°F (−78°C) and can cause severe cold burns. As it sublimates, it releases carbon dioxide that can accumulate in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.

    • Wear insulated gloves, eye or face protection and hearing protection
    • Use task-appropriate protective clothing and respiratory protection
    • Connect the anti-static grounding wire before operation
    • Keep other people outside the active blasting area
    • Never store dry ice in a sealed container
    • Review the SM2000 operator manual before use
How much is shipping, and how long does delivery take?

Standard shipping is free to the 48 contiguous United States. Orders normally process within two business days, excluding weekends and holidays. Estimated delivery is 3–8 business days, depending on the destination and carrier availability.

Freight carriers may contact you to schedule delivery, so provide a valid phone number at checkout. Pre-sale items can require additional processing time. Review the Shipping Policy.

What does the 2-year manufacturer warranty cover?

The SM2000 includes a two-year manufacturer’s warranty from the original delivery date. It covers manufacturing defects in non-wear components under normal use and maintenance.

Consumables and parts subject to normal wear are not covered. Damage caused by misuse, accidents, neglected maintenance or unauthorized modification is also excluded. Proof of purchase and photos or videos may be required when submitting a claim. Review the Manufacturer Warranty .

What if the machine arrives damaged or I need to return it?

Inspect the shipment before discarding any packaging. If the machine arrives damaged, keep the machine and all packaging, take clear photos or videos, and contact SANITMAX within three days so a freight claim can be reviewed.

Qualifying product-quality issues or shipping damage reported within 30 days may be eligible for a free return. Other returns are subject to the applicable conditions, shipping costs and possible fees described in the SANITMAX Refund Policy.

Can SANITMAX help with setup, troubleshooting and replacement parts?

Yes. SANITMAX can assist with pre-purchase compressor compatibility, initial setup questions, operating guidance, troubleshooting and replacement-part identification.

For the fastest assistance, email support@sanitmax.com with your order number, machine serial number, compressor specifications and clear photos or videos of the issue.
